I am trying to open a Fossil wrist watch so I can change the battery. Does anyone know how to get the back plate off?

If it has small ridges around the backing, then it screws off. There is a special tool to do this (it’s expensive). I have done it with a screwdriver before but it is difficult. It’s very easy to slip and scratch the back. I just put the screwdriver in one of the ridges and push it counter clockwise.
The other way is when they pop off. There will be a tab somewhere on the edge of the watch back that you can use a jewelers screwdriver to pry it up and it will pop off.
If you take it to a department store like Walmart, someone in jewelry will do it for you at no charge. They have all the right tools.
    Hope this helps!

Look to see if there’s a area on the backplate of the watch that looks like it’s missing. Take a very small standard screwdriver and put it under the open spot and pry softly or lift one end first then the other.

You need a special flat tool. You can get them on e-bay but they are quite expensive. Much easier and cheaper just to take it into a jewellers.

I personally would take to a jewelers, depending on the watch they can be hard to open, i use a knife, but seem to scratch the back.

Knock on the plate and if anyone is home they’ll answer, otherwise leave them alone, why do you have to keep bugging them this way, what have they ever done to you?
