Q&A: What are the laws on selling designer inspired handbags?
When I go on vacation I always see people selling designer handbag knockoffs. I want to set up shop and sell some but want to make sure its legal. I would of course tell people they are not the real thing, just inspired to look like the expensive ones.
Also, where could I order lots of these purses?

If it’s a counterfeit, it cannot be legal… If it bares the brand of a designer’s handbag, it is a counterfeited item, and it’s illegal to sell it or even buy it

You could happily sell identical fake bags without a logo but the minute you put a branded logo on them you will be liable to prosecution for counterfeiting.
The street sellers are illegals who dodge the laws and taxes, if you were in business you couldn’t get away with this. The only thing to do if you want to make a living this way is to join the other dodgy sellers on the streets.

It is illegal. I’ve heard numerous times in the news about flea markets getting raided because the knock off handbags. So the police could raid your shop, take all of your merchandise, and you would be arrested and have to pay a fine. All of the original designers of the handbags have really serious copyright laws. They could even sue you.
in places like China, there are huge sweatshop operations creating these knock off handbags. Therefore you would be supporting sweat shop labor directly. It’s illegal and shouldn’t be tolerated. Also you’d have to illegally ship them into the country.
think of an ethical job. I mean how pathetic is that, your job is selling knock off handbags? Personally I would rather work as a janitor in a pig farm or something.

Selling “any” counterfeit item in the US is illegal, even if you tell people they aren’t real you’re still violating the laws in the US. However, as long as the purses don’t have the same logo, name, etc. it can be sold. To order similar purses try putting words like “inspired by handbags” “designer handbags” and so forth.
