I know certain brands are higher quality. They last longer, look better, and fit better. I also look at fabric and just everything in general.
I am willing to spend more money for better quality. I would rather spend 50 on a shirt thats high quality than get five at 10 that are low quality.
The thing I look for most often to seaming. Straight seams = quality in my mind. A lot of times when I try on t-shirts at Target or Wet Seal, I notice that even though the side seams start out directly under my armpits, they twist so they’re wrapped around my torso a bit. This is my main guide for quality.
I also look for stray strands of thread on the hems, to see if any care was used in finishing the garment. If the garment has a pattern woven or screen-printed on it, I stretch the fabric to see how the image reacts. I also will stretch the fabric of any piece of clothing to see it’s elasticity, and judge from that whether it will hold up in the wash.
In short, no, branding does not affect my perception of quality. I know enough about sewing and clothing to be able to judge for myself.
