Hi,I did the following:

i live in boston, my dad lives in manchester NH, is there a way he can buy the car, give it to me as a gift, and then i can assume the loan?
i pay the excise tax, but not the sales tax?. if i buy it myself in MA, i pay both right?

You pay the excise tax when you register the car in MA. It doesn’t matter whose name is on the loan or who is paying the payments, it only matters how much the car is valued at when you get the MA plates for it.

The only way around paying the MA tax is if your dad registers it in his name in NH. But if he does that, and you’re the one who is actually driving the car around and keeping it in MA all the time, you’ll be in violation of state law. If you get caught, you’ll face big-time fines. And if you get in an accident, your insurance will be invalid.

EDIT: It’s been too many years since I lived in MA, and I’ve forgotten some of the details. Here’s where to find out what the rule and regs are:

You’ll pay both either way. The RMV will assess the use tax based upon the book value on a gift if the vehicle had not been registered and titled in MA by the donor.

I’m buying a $ 600 laptop online. As I was checking out, I noticed the estimated tax is $ 42.40. I live in NJ.
My question is would any and every laptop I would buy that costs $ 600 have a sales tax of $ 42.40?

New Jersey sales tax is 7 percent. That means you’d pay $ 42 on a $ 600 item.

And yes, sales tax is the same percent no matter what you’re buying.

i am looking to buy brand new Mercedes and Volvos and Toyotas…but i do not want to pay sales tax because I will be shipping it out anyways. simple. you register as a dealer with the sales tax authority in your state.

You don’t deal in any volumes yet, if you are asking this one.

Registering in another state where you do not have, and cannot prove residence is tax fraud. Not only that, but almost all dealerships have to enter into reciprocal tax arrangements with other states. That means that you are taxed at the rate for your state of ‘residence’ and the dealer remits tax to that state. So even if you say you live in Wisconsin, when you buy in Texas you are taxed at thw Wisconsin rate. If you tell the dealer that you will pay tax and title in your ‘home’ state, and they are audited, you will be liable to pay those taxes, plus penalties.

You can register as a broker/reseller if you have a dealer license. That would allow you to purchase for resale or export and not pay tax on the purchase. Keep immaculate records.

if inspection contingency has not expired you can back out for any reason. tell your lender your office is relocating and you will be denied the loan. then deposit will likley be returned to you.

anyone out there ever sold hot tubs for a living ? Is 60K per year an attainable number or is it just a pie in the sky gig ? Saw an ad for this type of job and I’m guessing your base is like 20K and good luck on selling 40K worth of tubs….or is this for real ? anyone have any experience here ?

My answer to your question is this…how many people do you personally know who own hot tubs? Not many Huh? A good car salesman usually doesn’t make 60K a year. I sold cars for a good long time (Mazda, Hyundai, Toyota, Volvo &BMW). You are lucky when you can sell 3 cars in one week and get more than a $ 200 commission per vehicle.

A good sales person writes their own number! 60k is possible just not probable if you do not do your homework. I know a guy that had a part-time sales position and he targeted the wrong audience (glamour-young-party) and didn’t make much. He did some homework, changed his target audience and his angle and that was when he was able to convert a part-time job into a full-blown hot tub only business… he marketed hot tubs as theraputic treatments and his market target is buying it up! He goes for the aches and pains relief angle with medical proof and has an add up at the sports medicine clinic.

We sold two major brands of tubs that are in the top ten. I paid my sales people $ 10 an hour, they also made 5% of all sales above 5k, 2.5% from $ 2500-$ 5000. In an average week each person would sell one pool table with accessories avg. $ 4500. (making $ 112.50) and three Hot Tubs averaging $ 8600 (making $ 430 per sale for a total of $ 1290). We were not greedy when it came to our mark ups therefore we sold more tubs in the long run making more money then our competition. I had a very sharp english speaking Japanese born lady that went after the building market and she made slightly over 110k in one year. The question if the dealer is good/flexible and has good products.

go to canal street in china town. they have little shops that you can go into that sell fake juicy couture, D&G, and other brands. but if your looking for prada, coach, louie vuitton, fendi, or another high names theres guys who quietly tell you they have these bags and give them to you on the sly haha.
